30 pictures as Prince William in North East during visit to Seaham and Newcastle

The Prince of Wales visited Low Carbon Materials (LCM) in Seaham and James’ Place in Newcastle on Tuesday

Prince William has visited the North East to undertake two official engagements.

On Tuesday afternoon, The Prince of Wales stopped of at Low Carbon Materials (LCM) in Seaham – a firm which has been nominated for the Prince’s Earthshot prize. The Prince is the founder and president of The Earthshot Prize, and visited LCM’s lab and warehouse, where he found out how they make their cutting-edge, carbon-negative products.

CEO of the firm, Dr Natasha Boulding, told him about the impact that being nominated for the prize has had on the company. LCM was founded by three Material Science PhD students from Durham University with the vision of becoming a world leader in low-carbon and environmentally friendly construction materials.

Following his visit to Seaham, William then made his way north to Newcastle, where he officially opened James’ Place and heard about the crucial lifeline that the charity’s new centre will provide to men experiencing suicidal crisis in the region. A man who has used James’ Place talked about his mental health struggles and being supported by the service. He told Prince William: “I sort of knew already, but I used to cover my emotions through drink or gambling. It’s only been four months, but it feels like four years.”
