Channel 4’s Gogglebox makes one huge change to show after 11 years

Channel 4 has decided to shake things up a bit this week by changing the iconic theme tune of Gogglebox, 11 years after the show’s launch. The reality TV favourite first graced our screens in March 2013, with Kodaline‘s track Perfect World setting the tone for each episode every Friday night at 9pm.

Despite regular changes in the cast over the past decade and 23 series, the theme tune has remained a familiar constant – at least up until now! Tonight’s episode (April 26) will feature a slightly remixed version of the beloved theme tune, adding a classical twist – but don’t worry, as this change to the BAFTA-winning show is only for one night.

In the coming days, you might notice that some of Channel 4’s most iconic theme tunes sound a bit different. This is because the title music for shows like Gogglebox and Countdown has been rearranged and performed on piano to celebrate the new second series of The Piano, which kicks off on Channel 4 on Sunday 28 April at 9pm.

Kodaline’s frontman Steve Garrigan has reworked their hit song ‘Perfect World’, which serves as Gogglebox’s title music. So, tune into Channel 4 at 9pm tonight to hear the series’ opening and closing music as a piano medley for the first time, reports the Mirror.

Channel 4 News is also set to celebrate The Piano with a special rendition of its iconic theme, Best Endeavours, originally by Alan Hawkshaw. The new theme will air on Sunday April 28 at 6.30pm for a fresh take on the classic tune, rearranged and recorded by Phase Music and Universal Production Music.

Countdown’s catchy jingle also gets a piano makeover from Steve Holness and Pascal Wyse, featured in episodes set to air from Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May. And there’s more: Come Dine With Me: The Professionals will showcase new piano title music by Patrick Duffin, starting from Monday 6 to Friday 10 May.

Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, shared his enthusiasm for the unique marketing choice as he said: “The Piano is that rarest of things, a TV show that makes people feel better about the world after watching it than they did before.

“We are spreading a little of that musical magic by replacing the theme tunes of some of our best loved shows with specially recorded piano versions. Big thanks go out to the talented composers and performers who have made this happen and our production partners who are joining us in celebrating the return of The Piano.”

The new piano theme tunes will air as follows:
