Abbey Clancy and The One Show host Alex Jones discovered a brand new thing in common during Tuesday night’s episode (April 23) of the hit BBC show, when the duo revealed that they both share the same unusual ‘obsession’ of plate collecting.
The surprising hobby first came to light during a segment with fellow guest Chris O’Dowd, who was promoting his new show The Big Door Prize, which is about a sleepy American town that becomes the owner of a mysterious machine which reveals people’s full potentials and the lives they ought to be living, by printing their ideal future on a piece of paper.
During the segment, each of the guests discussed what they would want the piece of paper to say, with Abbey admitting she’d love to be a pop star and Chris confessing he’d want it to say retired rock star. Jermaine Jenas then asked Alex what she would like it to read, to which she boldly confessed: “Oh god, I want to be…an old lady with lots of cats and plates and antiques.”
As the study erupted into giggles, Abbey boldly declared: “That sounds incredible!” Before Alex promptly quipped: “That’s where I’m heading!”
Keen to capitalise on the joke, Jermaine then cheekily said: “She is so close to this by the way, it’s your dream and you’re nearly achieving it! Two more plates and you’ll be there.”
After revealing that the number of plates in her possession was “a lot”, Abbey then chimed in to explain that she too had an expansive collection as she commented: “I’ve got lots of plates.” In fact, Abbey is such a big fan, she even confessed to dreaming about the fine bone china!
Recalling one recent dream in particular, Abbey said: “I have dreams about plates. My husband painted Portuguese plates. I was having this dream one day and my husband woke me up and I was just about to get this plate off the wall. I didn’t even get to look at it because he woke me up. I was fuming! I didn’t even see the plate!”
Clearly shocked at having found someone that shared her obsession, Alex then declared: “She’s more obsessed with them than I am!”
Prompting the model to sheepishly admit: “I love them”
The unusual insight into her unique hobby came as Abbey was appearing on the show to discuss her brand new solo podcast, Exhibit A, which will see the star speak to a number of individuals across all industries at the peak of their career to hear their stories of success.
In the first episode, Abbey sits down with Mo Gawdat, the former chief business officer for Google X who has recently released a book about the importance of a positive mentality and finding the path to his own happiness, even despite experiencing the tragic loss of his son back in 2014.
In addition to Mo, Abbey also teased a number of other stars in the coming episodes, including as yet unannounced sporting stars and Hollywood icons.
The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
