Alison Hammond takes on new project just days after announcing ‘break’ from TV

Despite recently declaring her intention to ‘take a year off from TV’, This Morning’s Alison Hammond has embarked on an exciting new venture. The Sky original podcast, Smart TV, is a fresh spin-off of Rob Beckett’s Smart TV television series, set to launch next week before the series makes its anticipated return to screens later this year.

Each episode features Alison, 49, and comedian/presenter Matt Crosby, engaging in lively chats with well-known personalities about their ideal cosy night in front of the telly.

Alison then deliberates whether she’d fancy joining them for the evening, weighing up if the proposed night sparks her interest and if they’ve got the snack situation sorted.

Not one to mince her words, Alison delivers her verdict on their night – a judgement that might not always be met with smiles.

Alison Hammond is buzzing with excitement about her latest gig, as she reveals: “I am absolutely BUZZING to share my brand-new podcast, Smart TV! I’m teaming up with the brilliant Matt Crosby to chat all things telly-drama, reality, and everything in between! And we’re kicking off in style with the legendary Richard E. Grant as our first guest. Expect laughs, gossip, and top-tier telly chat-it’s going to be amazing babs!”

Alison recently appeared on screens with her travel series Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked alongside son Aidan

This news comes amid whispers that Alison, beloved for her on-screen charm on ITV’s This Morning and Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off, might be taking a sabbatical from her television career.

In an honest conversation with Heat magazine, she confessed: “In the next ten years, I want to travel the world, I would love to take a year off and just go and travel. Not just yet, but one day. I need to see the world before I die!”

The reveal of her wanderlust dreams follows shortly after fans were treated to her and son Aidan gallivanting across the pond in the travelogue Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked. The ten-part BBC Two series documents the pair discovering Florida’s finest on a shoestring budget.

The Smart TV with Alison Hammond podcast will launch on 5 February
