Christmas is a time when the channels go all out with their programme output and the BBC are pulling out all the stops to try and make sure that no-one needs to reach for the remote this year, with a bumper line-up of shows to stop people from switching over.
While ITV has had its fair share of festive hits over the years, the most watched list every Christmas day is normally made up of things that have been on the BBC, with the likes of EastEnders, Top of the Pops (RIP!) and Mrs Brown’s Boys always proving to be ratings winners.
And, given that over 19 million people tuned into watch its Christmas special five years ago, the big money is on the Gavin and Stacey finale being the most watched show on Wednesday. But it’s not the only ace the BBC has up its sleeve this Christmas Day, with the likes of EastEnders, Strictly, Call The Midwife and Doctor Who also waiting in the wings, with two strips to Albert Square on the menu.
