BBC EastEnders fans fume as Ben Mitchell ‘forgotten’ just weeks after shock exit

EastEnders‘ Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden), left Albert Square just one month ago, but he already seems to have been forgotten by the other characters.

Ben was jailed after committing fraud in the US and his final episode aired on Thursday 28 March. Ben had been out in America trying to find treatment options for Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold). A little while later Ben was consequently arrested, charged and shared an emotional goodbye with husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay).

Through the cell doors, Callum tearfully declared “I don’t want a life without you”. But viewers have noted that since that day, Ben hasn’t been mentioned by Callum or his daughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown).

Fans have been quick to comment about it and said: “Callum isn’t very upset over Ben, I expected some heartfelt missing him emotion and sadness #EastEnders @bbceastenders even him taking time to compose and take it in.”

Another penned: “I feel like Callum has totally got over Ben & his sentencing. He seems way too normal for someone who has lost his husband to 6 years in prison on the other side of the world.”

A third viewer added: “Why haven’t they shown Callum/Lexi dealing with their grief over losing Ben? we haven’t seen any aftermath for them at all. why does everything have to revolve around Jay? Lexi and Callum seem to exist only to advance his storylines nowadays and it’s p***ing me off.”

Lola, on the other hand, has been mentioned countless times, with Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) and Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) running the 2024 London marathon in her memory – which the actors themselves took on too for their own charities.

Jamie said: “I’m running for Prostate Cancer UK . My dad, uncle and cousin have all been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the past few years – thankfully it was caught early, and they’re all doing well. So it was a no-brainer for me.”

Emma added: “I’m raising money for Children In Need, which was a joint decision between the EastEnders bosses and myself. And I’m really thrilled – they’re just wonderful. I don’t have any kids of my own, so if I can just give to the charity, and support teenagers and children across the country, that’s a real buzz for me.”

Meanwhile, Ben actor Max is gearing up to star in the touring production of Birdsong – which he was also a part of in 2016. Max will be playing Jack Firebrace and said: “I’m so excited to be collaborating with [producers] Original Theatre again on a project close to my heart.

“Birdsong highlights the tragedy of war, yet the beauty of humanity simultaneously through strong relationships under extreme circumstances, and I can’t wait to bring Jack Firebrace to life under their guidance.”

And the production is getting underway, with Max having shared some behind the scenes clips of the Birdsong photoshoot in April.
