BBC EastEnders favourite in heart-breaking blow as he’s diagnosed with brain condition that could kill him

Since first arriving on our screens last Summer, it’s safe to say that George Knight hasn’t had the easiest time of it in Walford. In the nine months since his debut, George has been confronted with his ex-wife Rose, discovered her real name was actually Cindy Beale and that she had been living under a false identity in a witness protection program!

He also discovered that his adoptive parents had paid to adopt him as part of a process calling ‘farming’ which saw children advertised for money for parents looking to give children a home. In a further harrowing blow, it later emerged that his adoptive father Eddie was a notorious racist and had actually murdered George’s birth father!

To make matters worse, while Eddie was appearing in court for his crime, George’s adoptive mother Gloria tragically passed away, with the mean-spirited father even denying his son the right to attend her funeral. Yet now, as the father of three continues to juggle with his own grief, George is set to experience yet another devastating blow in the coming days as he is diagnosed with a brain condition that may cost him his life.

In upcoming scenes, George is left distraught when his daughters Gina and Anna break the news that Eddie held Gloria’s funeral without even telling him, denying him the final opportunity to say goodbye to his mother.

While struggling with his grief, George will once again turn to his sporting love of boxing as he takes to the ring to try and fight out his emotions rather than confronting them head on. Clearly seeing that their father is struggling Gina and Anna decide to hold a memorial for Gloria the following day, but as he prepares to attend the heartfelt event, it becomes apparent that he is still suffering from his injuries picked up in the boxing ring the night before.

Overcome with dizziness, George almost collapses and is immediately rushed to hospital by concerned pals Cindy Beale and Phil Mitchell. After a brief assessment by doctors, George is sent for a CT scan of his brain where it is later revealed he now suffers from a brain condition caused by repeated blows to the head.

As medics try to reiterate the seriousness of the condition, George is set to be blindsided as a doctor reveals that one more bad knock to the head has the potential to kill him! Later, as he returns home George get approached by Rufus the fight organiser, who gives him last night’s cash and the offer of another fight.

Heartbroken to realise he’s considering it, Cindy confronts George over his actions and even suggests that he undergo online therapy to help him process his grief in a healthier way. Yet despite her best efforts, he still seems determined to get in the ring, even when she delivers a shocking ultimatum.

Will George set foot in the ring again, and if so what consequences will it have?
