BBC EastEnders’ Jay star Jamie Borthwick’s private cancer pain as he runs London Marathon

EastEndersJamie Borthwick will leave Walford to pound the streets of the capital, as he takes on the iconic London Marathon.

The 29 year old star, better known for his role as Jay Brown in the ever-popular soap will be putting on his running shoes on Sunday, 21 April to raise funds for a cause that’s very close to his heart.

But in a unique twist, he and co-star Emma Barton – who plays Honey – will be filming an EastEnders episode at the same time.

In the storyline, Jay and Honey are running in honour of Jay’s partner Lola, who had a brain tumour and tragically passed away, leaving him as a single parent to her daughter, Lexi.

But in reality Jay is supporting Prostate Cancer UK and Emma is raising funds for Children In Need. The pair previously ran the marathon together back in 2019, which Jamie remembers as a gruelling experience.

He opened up about his special cause, revealing his private cancer pain – as his father has been battling the disease.

“Sadly, my dad has not been well this year with cancer,” Jamie told OK! last year. He also recently revealed that his uncle and cousin have been diagnosed in the last two years, but thankfully all three cases were caught early.

Jamie expressed his gratitude for his dad’s recovery and how it’s reshaped his outlook on life, saying: “Things like that nudge you and you go, ‘You’ve got one life, just live it.’ There are going to be bad days, there are going to be plenty for all of us, so while things are good, just live it.”

Jamie has been a familiar face on our screens since he was just 12 but is traditionally reserved about public appearances. However, after his difficult year, he even took part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, despite having previously turned it down.

“I decided I need to stop saying ‘no’,” Jamie revealed. “And lo and behold, Strictly rang! I thought, ‘What a perfect example to put that into practice.’ So I said ‘yes’!”

Jamie went on to win the show with dance partner Nancy Xu and admitted he loved the experience, even saying he was sad filming had finished.

“I’m on a bit of a downer now filming is over. We had such a good laugh and everyone at Strictly makes such a lovely team,” he revealed. “It was a great experience to learn something new and Nancy’s such a great teacher. I’ve gained a special friend so it was a win-win all round.”
