BBC News star flooded with support from viewers as she returns after a year off-air

BBC News fans were treated to a glimpse of a very familiar face on Tuesday when Karin Giannone returned to Broadcasting House after a year away from our screens. The 50 year old reporter shared the news that she would be returning in the coming days on social media, as she posted a photograph from the iconic BBC newsroom while rehearsing for her on-screen return.

In the image, Karin smiled for the camera while posing on crutches in a chic blue blazer and white camisole, which she accessorised with a simple necklace, gold watch and complimentary stud earrings. Alongside the photo, Karin wrote: “Made it into the newsroom to do studio rehearsals. So great to be back and can’t wait to be back on air when all healed! Now resting and icing the #knee for a good while longer.”

Immediately after the image was posted, countless fans flocked to the comments to section to celebrate the return of the presenter, with one fan writing: “The stars are aligning in a fabulous resurgence….”

A second fan then added: “Great news! Wishing you all the best, Karin.”

Before a third fan commented: ”Great to see you back Karin. Loving the halo.”

While a fourth fan echoed: “Amazing, Karin! Great to see you back where you belong!”

The exciting update comes after Karin was pulled off air last year alongside four other BBC News colleagues as part of a corporate re-structure to streamline the News service by amalgamating BBC World News and the BBC News Channel . This meant that the existing employees were told to re-apply for their own jobs if they hoped to keep them.

Karin, alongside, Geeta Guru-Murthy, Kasia Madera, and Annita McVeigh and Martine Croxall were all stuck in a state of limbo regarding their future as broadcasters at the channel. However, all five broadcasters were later confirmed to be returning to their posts in a huge victory.

As a result of the furore, Martine even launched legal actions against the BBC earlier this month and will take the company to a two day employment tribunal in May 2024.

Karin underwent knee surgery earlier this month

Despite having successfully kept her job, Karin was also dealt a fresh blow when her return to our screens was delayed by the need for knee surgery. Earlier this month, Karin told her fans how she had been suffering from the symptoms of Arthritis and had undergone a major operation, an osteotomy, to cut through her leg bone and realign her foot in order to reduce the pain.

Speaking at the time, Karin posted a photograph from her hospital bed as she wrote: “I’m out of action for a couple of months after a knee osteotomy surgery, but very much looking forward to being back on air on @BBCNews when I am up and running again!”
