BBC Strictly Come Dancing star claims senior royal is keen to join line-up of hit show

Strictly Come Dancing star Nadiya Bychkova has revealed one senior royal is a huge fan of the BBC One show and even wants to take part in the competition. The professional dancer has opened up about meeting Princess Anne, who is said to enjoy watching Strictly.

Nadiya, 34, claimed that she met the Princess Royal, 73, at a “ballet event” in March and the Royal told her she’d like to join the cast of Strictly. She told The Sun: “She is a Strictly fan, and she wants to go on the show — she told me.

“She did say that. I think she would be good — there’s a lot of personality there, isn’t there?” the professional dancer added.

It comes after the Queen announced “I’m one of Strictly’s greatest fans” after star Johannes Radebe presented her with a pair of steel-shod shoes at an event in Cambridge in February.

Speaking on the royal’s love for Strictly, Nadiya added: “They love it, and they watch it all the time. Whenever you see royals at events, they all know what’s going on.

“I’m not from this country so I don’t know all the royal etiquette, but you learn through situations, and I just try to be (as) respectful as I can when I meet the royals. It just blows your mind to think how big this show is.”

The dancer may even put in a good word for Anne with BBC bosses. She said that dancers “end up in circles” with celebs who are big fans of the show, and get to suggest potential names to producers.

Princess Anne and the Queen aren’t the only Royal Strictly Come Dancing fans. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is also said to be an avid watcher of the BBC show and has even shared her hopes of one day taking part in the show.

Professional Johannes Radebe revealed Sophie’s longing to lift the Glitterball trophy. He previously said: “She would love the opportunity to [compete in Strictly Come Dancing] but she can’t obviously. She has personally told me this.”

This year will mark the 20 years since Strictly was first brought to TV screens, and there’s no doubt BBC bosses have a huge show lined up. Rumours have already began circulating about the celebrities who could appear, despite the show not returning until the end of the year.

Celebs such as Hannah Waddingham, Nicola Peltz, Sophie Morgan, Jill Scott, and Phillip Schofield have all been rumoured to appear on the 2024 season of the show.
