Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Scanlon has landed her “dream job” on Virgin Radio UK, where she’ll take over the weekend breakfast show from Graham Norton.
Comedian and chat show host Graham, 61, told listeners he was quitting the station in February after 13 years as a weekend radio presenter between Virgin and BBC, explaining: “I just want my weekends back.”
Now, Irish TV presenter Angela, 40, has been named as his replacement and she couldn’t be more excited about her new role, joking that her fans’ dreams had come true.
Angela said: “I know how many of you have dreamt about waking up to my husky dulcet tones, well dreams come true gang.
“I’ll be getting up with you every weekend on Virgin Radio and I am inappropriately excited. Stick the kettle on!”
Angela will start her new breakfast show on Virgin Radio UK which airs on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am later this month.
Busy Graham’s packed schedule includes hosting The Graham Norton Show on BBC One, judging RuPaul’s Drag Race, and leading BBC’s Eurovision coverage. He previously hosted BBC Radio 2’s Saturday morning show from 2010 to 2020, moving to Virgin Radio in 2021.
When he announced his exit, Graham said: “Now the show isn’t quite the normal show today because I have a bit of an announcement to make – I’m leaving weekends here at Virgin Radio.
“I’ll still be kind of popping up on the station from time to time but my regular Saturday and Sundays, I’m stepping away.
“I’ve worked weekends between here and the old place for 13 years and my life has changed a bit so I just want my weekends back.”
Angela took part in Strictly last year, where she danced with Carlos Gu and finished in sixth place, narrowly missing out on the quarter finals.
She is also known for presenting Your Home Made Perfect, Your Garden Made Perfect, being a guest presenter on The One Show, and was previously a presenter on Robot Wars.
Angela isn’t the only new host announced for Virgin Radio UK as the station has also signed up former kids’ TV presenters Dick and Dom, as well as comedians Leigh Francis (aka Keith Lemon) and Tom Allen for its weekend line-up.
