Christmas and New Year party season is almost upon us – and if you’re hoping to be the host with the most this year, you have no doubt been searching the supermarkets for some unforgettable festive food.
Whether Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda or another store is your destination of choice, each one is offering its own take on Christmas from the savoury to the sweet to impress your guests with. Of course, you can find the usual festive party food staples at virtually any supermarket, from pigs in blankets and cheese bites to buffet favourites like prawn toast and mini sausage rolls.
But if you’re looking for something a little different or extra-special this year, we have scoured the shelves at all the major supermarkets to find some of the most unique Christmas party food options to inspire your festive spread. Here are some of the most mouth-watering options to choose from if you’re hosting this Christmas and New Year.
Tesco
Tesco is offering three for £6 on selected frozen party food for Clubcard holders, and there are a few special additions amongst the classics. One of the favourites we’ve spotted are the BBQ Cheesy Bean Crumpets for £3 – a twist on the classic beans on toast featuring a mini crumpet topped with barbecue flavour beans and cheese.
The Chip Shop Favourites for £3 are another new take on a classic, consisting of Basa fish chunks with mushy peas or curry sauce in a batter coating for the full chippy experience in a single bite. And another particularly tempting choice are the Chicken Fajita Taco Cups for £3.50, made from shredded chicken breast with spicy tomato sauce and Regato cheese in a taco pastry cup.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s is offering three for two on its festive party food, and it’s all about putting a twist on Christmas dinner favourites. Shoppers can choose from the likes of the Pork & Cranberry Rolls for £2.25, mini puff pastry parcels with a pork and cranberry filling, or the Mini Turkey & Stuffing Pasties for £2.75, with turkey and stuffing in a shortcrust pastry.
For a show-stopping festive spread, there’s the Candy Filo Vegetable Cones for £3, filo pastry with a mixed vegetable filling made to look like striped candy canes. And a real star of the show is the Ice Ice Bao-by Penguins for £6, steamed buns filled with mixed vegetables decorated to look like cute penguin faces.
Asda
Asda is also offering three for two on Christmas party food, and like Sainsbury’s has Jolly Penguin Bao Buns, this time with a mushroom and hoisin filling, for the cheaper price of £3.50. For an activity and tasty treat all in one, shoppers can also build their own Party Penguins for £6 from black olives and cheese cubes.
One particularly mouth-watering option is the Mini Chorizo Mac & Cheese Cups from the supermarket’s Exceptional range for £5.50, with rich nduja macaroni and cheese in a pastry cup topped with smoky chorizo and a crunchy onion crumb. And for a more casual get-together, a comfort food favourite are the Mini Ham & Cheese Toasties for £3.50.
Morrisons
Like its counterparts, Morrisons is running a three for two offer on its Christmas party food options too. One choice that caught our eye is the 12 Twists of Christmas for £7.50, made with extra mature cheddar, soft cheese, Red Leicester and Davidstow Cheddar cheese with caramelised red onion chutney, wrapped in a flaky cheese pastry and topped with parsley and beetroot crumb, perfect for sharing.
And when it comes to dessert time, who could resist the Mini Churros Bites for £2.49, a bite-sized treat with a chocolate and hazelnut filling. To go more traditional with your Christmas spread, the £6 Festive Gingerbread House is sure to be a centrepiece that will turn heads – and you can decorate it yourself, complete with snowflake sprinkles, red and green beads and icing.
Iceland
Iceland is the home of Greggs party food, meaning you can bring the North East’s favourite bakery into your home for Christmas and New Year. This includes a pack of 12 Greggs Mini Sausage Rolls, Greggs Mini Steak Rolls, or Greggs Mini Cheese & Onion Rolls for £3 each.
Iceland is also home to plenty more exclusive ranges from big household names, from Cathedral City to Harry Ramsden’s. There are more mouth-watering options to be found in the TGI Fridays range, including TGI Fridays Mini Burgers for £5, Hash Brown Dogs for £4.50 or Loaded Bacon & Cheese Skins for £3, plus TGI Fridays Cookie Cups for dessert for £4 with a selection of flavours from salted caramel to cookies and cream – Iceland is also offering four for £10 on selected party food.
Aldi
And finally, it’s all about the sweet treats over at Aldi with some bite-sized desserts ideal for guests to grab if you’re throwing a party. The Sticky Toffee Mini Star Bites for £3.49 and Chocolate Mini Star Bites for the same price are sure to look good on the table, while another top pairing is the Raspberry Mini Doughnuts and Chocolate & Hazelnut Mini Doughnuts for £1.79 each,.
Meanwhile, the Chocolate Smash Dome Cake landed in Aldi stores on Thursday and is expected to sell fast, priced at £14.99. This chocolate sponge cake is coated with Belgian dark chocolate ganache buttercream, topped with chocolate decorations and a smashable Swiss milk chocolate dome.
