Big Sean ended Black History Month by dropping a new freestyle, “Head to the Sky.”
The rapper dropped off the track, that samples “Optimistic” by Sounds of Blackness, on social media with the message, “Some bars on the last day of Black History Month…type shit. Sounds of Blackness.”
“Head to he Sky” doesn’t have any lyrics directly tied to Blackness though, despite its release timing. The upbeat track finds Sean reflecting on the past and embracing his journey in the future, with bars like, “See the magic in mistakes and start to embrace it,” giving listeners the blueprint to be like him.
In the accompanying video, Sean showcases the faces of people of all ages looking up to the sky and being optimistic — just like the song’s sample says.

Last Month, Sean collaborated with Will Smith on the track “Beautiful Scar” and released a The Matrix-inspired music video with it. In the wild visual, Sean, dressed as Morpheus, offers Smith a red or blue pill to either keep his life the same or go back in time to star in The Matrix.
“Look, you’ve made some awesome career choices your whole life,” Sean said in the video., “There’s only one you truly regret. Well… maybe two. But we’re not gonna focus on that one.”
After Smith responds that that’s “messed up,” Sean offers the actor the pills. Instead of choosing between Sean/Morpheus’ ultimatum, Smith swallows them both — leading to a wild set of scenes that recreate iconic scenes from the sci-fi classic.
A few days before “Beautiful Scars” came out, Sean opened up about what being a father is like for him during an episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty.
“It’s like time traveling,” said Sean. “People always try and figure out how to preserve themselves. There’s the expression, ‘Oh, I’m living through my kids. I think that your blood, your lineage…you really do time travel.’”
