Bridget Jones star shares Fiona Bruce ‘cocktail’ secret during The One Show appearance

Bridget Jones star Sarah Solemani has let slip a cheeky little insight about BBC news reader and Antiques Roadshow host Fiona Bruce. While on The One Show chatting about her latest gig as Miranda alongside Renee Zellweger’s iconic character, Sarah dished out that Fiona had give her some guidance for the role, since Miranda also works in TV.

Sarah shared with hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp: “For the last movie we wanted to do some research so Renee and I went to the studio, we met Fiona and she talked us through. At the time I think she sometimes did the Six O Clock and the 10 O Clock.”

In an incredibly spot-on Fiona send-up, she quipped: “I do the Six O Clock and the 10 O Clock and sometimes in between I go to the hotel and have a cocktail.” Alex couldn’t resist confirming: “She does!”

Sarah continued: “I said, ‘you have a cocktail between the news? ‘ I said ‘have you ever had two? ‘ She said ‘I have had two, the trouble with two is you begin not to care? ‘” Amidst giggles from guests Trinny Woodhall and Keeley Hawes, Alex endorsed with glee: “This is true – she’s amazing.”

Roman praised Sarah’s imitation skills and Sarah playfully confessed: “My dream role is actually to be Fiona Bruce,” reports Wales Online. To which Alex mused: “Many layers to Fiona Bruce.”

The newest chapter in the Bridget Jones saga, Mad About The Boy, is set to hit cinemas in February. The plot teases a turn of fortune for our beloved Bridget, who now enjoys a successful career as a screenwriter, a loving family, and a new beau. However, her boyfriend’s age – over two decades her junior – isn’t the only source of complications.

Elsewhere on The One Show, Keeley was chatting about her new role in the BBC prime-time Sunday night drama Miss Austen while Trinny was talking about her role as a guest dragon on BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

Miss Austen, which starts this weekend, is set in 1830. A letter arrives at Chawton Cottage, where Cassandra Austen (played by Keeley) has lived alone for many years since the death of her sister Jane.

The One Show is on BBC One weekdays at 7pm and is available on BBC iPlayer
