A British Airways flight from Dubai was compelled to conduct an emergency landing when numerous passengers and crew members abruptly fell ill due to noxious fumes. Roughly one hour into the flight, the captain decided to divert back to the airport because of the mysterious affliction.
Upon touchdown, passengers of Flight 0108 were met by emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, as reported by The Sun. One traveller recalled: “It was clear there was little preparation for such an event.”
Addressing the incident, British Airways released a statement to the Mirror: “The aircraft returned to Dubai International Airport due to a minor technical issue.”
The airline further stated, “The vast majority of customers were rebooked onto same-day alternative flights to get them to their destination as soon as possible.”
This development follows a separate incident last month where a holidaymaker, John Nica, alleged that he endured hours of discomfort during a flight from London to Dubai after being ‘dripped on by a leak’, reports the Mirror.
The 40 year old maintains that for the final two hours of his eight-hour journey on December 16, rusty-hued water trickled ‘directly onto his head’ from a malfunctioning air conditioning unit, with the cabin staff allegedly failing to intervene.
The account manager was looking forward to celebrating his 40th birthday under the sun in the United Arab Emirates when an ‘absolutely awful’ incident marred the beginning of his holiday. John, hailing from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, claimed he had to endure a 40-minute wait for airline staff to address his concerns after pressing the assistance button upon noticing a leak above his seat.
A video seems to show fluid leaking from stained ceiling panels directly over him. John alleges that despite reporting the issue, he was told by cabin crew that reseating wasn’t an option due to the flight’s full capacity, forcing him to sit beneath the drip for the flight’s duration.
Apologising for the inconvenience, British Airways confirmed they had reached out to rectify the matter, yet John remains dissatisfied and intends to escalate his complaint. Asserting that he turned down the airlines’ £150 voucher offer, John has approached the UK Civil Aviation Authority with his grievance and is prepared to bring the case before the small claims court if necessary.
John recalls: “About two hours before landing I was about to fall asleep and I felt something wet on my forehead. I thought maybe it was just the cold because it was very cold on the plane, but when I touched my forehead I could see water and I was like ‘OK, where is this water coming from? “.
