A warning has been issued over batches of a popular brand of breakfast cereal which it is feared could contain a choking hazard.
The food alert from the Food Standards Agency concerns Nestlé Frosted Shreddies – sold at all main supermarkets – which are being recalled amid fears the cereal may be unsafe to eat. It says Cereal Partners UK and Ireland are recalling the product as small hard lumps of sugar could have have formed in it which could present a risk of choking.
The warning applies to 40g and 500g box sizes with various batch codes listed below. In a recall notice to customers, Nestlé explains why the products are being recalled and advises those who have bought them to “not eat them”. It says: “Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.” Alternatively, it says customers can contact Nestlé online here.
A risk statement on the FSA website says of the affected cereal packs: “This product may contain small hard lumps of sugar which makes them unsafe to eat and may present a choking hazard.” The alert applies only to certain batch codes and these can be fund on the top of the boxes.

The codes to look out for are listed below. No other batches of Nestlé Frosted Shreddies, Nestlé Shreddies varieties or Nestlé breakfast cereal products are affected.
