Coronation Street is reportedly lining up a huge storyline for Abi Franklin, played by Sally Carman-Duttine, who will become the victim of deepfake sex tapes in upcoming scenes.
The videos, doctored by AI, will be sent to her boss Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) at the garage which will most likely leave Abi’s job and reputation under threat. A source spoke to The Sun about the story: “Scriptwriters are always keen to reflect what’s happening in the world. Abi was caught up in the dark world of drugs and is desperate to find out who’s behind the videos. It’s awful as they look so real.”
OK! Have reached out to Coronation Street reps for comment.
It won’t be the first big storyline Sally has played out on-screen, Abi was left a single mum in 2001 after giving birth to her son, Seb Franklin. The pressure meant Abi frequently turned to drink and drugs.
In 2012, Abi became involved with an abusive man called Darren who fathered her twins, Charlie and Lexi, who have since been taken into foster care. Abi also became homeless at one point and slept in a car at the garage.
Abi’s son, Seb, (Harry Visinoni) died in 2021 after he and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) were attacked by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) – who was later charged with Seb’s murder. Abi went out to get revenge on Corey and set out to kill him, but was talked out of doing so.
One lighter storyline for Sally came later in 2021 when Abi and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) tied the knot – much to the delight of viewers. But in 2022, Abi went into labour in the side of the road as she had no idea she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy – Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) was the father.
The reported storyline comes after the confirmation that Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) is returning to the soap after seven years off-screen. Nathan exploited young girls including Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) who as he returns, immediately accuses him of murdering missing Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
As he returned to the show, Chris said: “I really don’t think prison has reformed Nathan in the slightest, in some ways I think he’s even more clever and more manipulative.
“He’s hardened, he’s aware that he can take a kicking and he’s aware of the advantages of getting other people into trouble so he plays people off against the law. He’s hardened, he’s trickier, he’s starting again so the stakes are higher for him because he knows if he makes one mistake he’ll be back inside. He’s furious at having got caught rather than being repentant.”
