Coronation Street star Rob Mallard couldn’t contain his excitement as his off-screen partner Matthew Martin made an unexpected cameo on the cobbles.
Rob, known for his role as the troubled Daniel Osbourne, cheered on his partner as he stepped into the shoes of a police officer in a thrilling scene where Claire Sweeney’s character, Cassie Plummer, found herself on the wrong side of the law.
Claire herself took to social media to praise her co-star’s appearance, posting on Instagram: “How fabulous you were.”
Grateful for his moment in the spotlight, Matthew shared the inside scoop on Instagram about how he landed his surprise gig on the iconic soap.
He posted a picture alongside his beaming boyfriend Rob, captioning the snap: “Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer.”

He expressed his thanks to @mossy737 for the opportunity to join Corrie and heaped praise on his partner for his unwavering support and mentorship.
Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton on the show, chimed in saying: “There he is.” Emrhys Cooper, also in the cast as Rowan Cunliffe, shared love with a flurry of heart emojis, reports the Express.
Wednesday’s episode had fans doing double-takes as they spotted Matthew, leading to an influx of congratulatory messages on Instagram. One viewer, commented: “I thought I recognised them well then!!”
Another quipped: “Bring you boyfriend to work day! Lol…ahhhh amazing xx” Someone else wrote:”Yes love this!!!!”

In the past, Rob was once with his co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays the beloved vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles. The pair, both stars of Coronation Street, sparked up a romance in 2017 and made their first public appearance as a couple at the British LGBT awards.
Rob, who scooped up the Best Newcomer gong at the British Soap Awards that year, famously joked that Daniel was “the best thing I’ve taken home this year”.
However, despite the fanfare, the duo decided to part ways just a couple of months after taking their love public.
