Coronation Street’s Kimberly Hart-Simpson, who plays Nicky Wheatley, has a fascinating life off-screen. Two years after leaving the cobbles, she’s back in Weatherfield, helping Daniel Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard, solve the mystery of Lauren Bolton’s disappearance.
Nicky, a former sex worker now working in community outreach, is using her knowledge of the sex industry to help Daniel, as Lauren was known to have followed Ryan Connor on O-Vidz before she vanished. Despite Nicky’s best efforts, suspicion still falls on Daniel.
Away from the drama of the ITV soap, Kimberly leads a peaceful life running her own reupholstering business. The 37 year old actress first appeared on Coronation Street in June 2020, when Daniel was struggling with the loss of his wife Sinead.
Kimberly made her first exit just four months later, only reappearing in 2022 as her character tried to stick to the straight and narrow – but her past quickly caught up with her when a jealous Daisy Midgeley exposed her sex worker past. And while she has reprised her role in 2024, the number of episodes she’s due to appear in remains unconfirmed.
After bowing out of the soap a second time, Kimberly focused on other projects and wowed her fans on Instagram when she announced she’d taken on a new career in October 2023. The actress shared a selfie where she can be seen holding up a key, reports the Mirror.
A proud Kimberly wrote the caption: “Today I got the keys to my new office for Hart-Work. The space is going to allow me to do so much more reupholstering and content. It’s been on the vision board so it had to happen.”
The “small win”, as she’d branded the move, came years after she started the Instagram account for her new business, “a celebrity endorsed clothing boutique” with its own spot on retailer ASOS Marketplace. In late 2021, Kimberly even celebrated the launch of a collection with Mancunian nail studio Doll Parts.
Kimberly is active on social media, particularly on Instagram, where she shares snaps of her off-screen life, from glitzy events to her real-life friendships with soap stars such as Rob Mallard and Danielle Harold. Earlier in April 2024, Kimberly took to Instagram to share another exciting update in her life – she’s bought a new house!
Looking effortlessly chic in a casual ensemble, Kimberly beamed as she showed off her new keys, posing next to an elegant glass-panelled staircase. Yet, the soap star tends to keep her cards close to her chest when it comes to personal details.
Along with Coronation Street and Hollyoaks as firefighter Davina, Kimberly has also tried her hand at finding love on Celebs Go Dating. It was there she met Shane Finlayson, and the two hit it off, starting a romance in November 2020 after meeting on the Channel 4 show.
They soon made things Instagram official with a cosy snap. However, by 2021, the couple had called it quits – Kimberly cited the strain of Covid-19 restrictions and the long distance between them as reasons for their split.
“After 6 months of dating Shane and I have decided to part ways. We are proud of our journey and respect each other immensely. The show has been the best experience”, Kimberly shared in a heartfelt statement. “Our journey after that even better but with the distance between us, work commitments and restrictions can naturally take its toll.”
Kimberly, who identifies as pansexual, meaning she is attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender, has been relatively private about her love life. However, during a Q&A session with her Instagram followers in July 2022, she revealed that she was “single with not a sniff of a ring”.
