A care home in County Durham has partnered with a local food bank to launch a new drop-off point for unwanted items.
To celebrate this year’s Harvest Festival, residents and team members at Care UK’s Church View, on Church Lane, encouraged the local community to donate their extra, unused or unwanted non-perishable food items to County Durham’s new foodbank drop-off-point. Donations have now been made to Heart on the Terrace in Murton.
As part of the celebrations, everyone enjoyed learning about the origins of the festival, what it means for today’s society, and why this long-standing tradition should not be forgotten. Residents also visited Ribbon Academy Murton to watch their Harvest Festival production.
Commenting on the afternoon’s celebrations, resident Olive, aged 92, said: “What a wonderful morning we had! It was a joy to watch the children.”
While another resident, Hannah, aged 88, said: “It was a pleasure to visit the school and see the children. The school children looked so smart in their uniforms.”
Cheryl Bailey, Home Manager at Church View, said: “At Church View, we are committed to making a positive impact in our communities, which is why this Harvest Festival, we’re proud to be working with Heart on the Terrace, in Murton, to establish a foodbank drop-off point at our care home.
“This initiative allows us to come together with residents, their families, and the wider community to support those in need during these challenging times. By working together, we can help ensure that everyone has access to essential supplies as we celebrate the season of giving and gratitude.
“Everyone also had an a-maize-ing day visiting Ribbon Academy it was a wonderful afternoon watching the children sing, dance and act.”
