Crystal Palace ‘difficult’ warning for Newcastle United after Liverpool victory

Crystal Palace’s win against Liverpool sent shockwaves through the Premier League, and new manager Oliver Glasner has challenged his side to take that and become difficult to play against in every match.

Newcastle United head to Selhurst Park on Wednesday night looking to consolidate their sixth place in the Premier League. With the Eagles battling at the wrong end of the table, it looks on paper like a big chance for Eddie Howe’s side, but their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend has changed the complexion somewhat.

Palace face West Ham today before hosting Newcastle, and Glasner wants to see all the positives from Anfield continued against David Moyes side and then Newcastle in midweek. The Austrian has set a challenge to his side for the remainder of the season, and it’s one which could affect how they set up against the Magpies.

“It would be terrible if all the teams say: ‘Oh, it’s nice to play against Palace because we win!’, Glasner said ahead of today’s game at Selhurst Park against the Hammers.

“We want to be difficult to play against . . . but we want to do it in our way. We want to play with confidence. We want to defend together. We want to attack together. We always want to score goals, so this is the mindset we have. Six or seven games we’ve taken the lead, but now it’s our challenge to keep this level high for the whole of the game.”

Rob Holding could return for Palace against Newcastle after four months on the sidelines, but the hosts could be without Jefferson Lerma, Chris Richards, Joel Ward, Cheick Doucour, Matheus Franca and Will Hughes.
