Davey’s UK confirm Newcastle city centre opening with promise of epic new menu

It’s a brand that has not only been a huge success for the local dup behind it, but has also become synonymous with top notch food and Davey’s UK is about to enter an exciting new era, with the opening of a new venue in Newcastle, which will see it offer sit-in dining for the first time.

Born right in the middle of the grim Covid pandemic in 2020, at a crippling time for the hospitality sector, Davey’s started life as sandwich shop on Old Durham Road in Gateshead. In a year when many people were looking for a great takeaway option to enjoy during one of their permitted daily walks or back in the comfort of their homes, Davey’s quickly became a massive word of mouth winner, thanks, in no small part, to the huge sandwiches created in its small kitchen.

A company that is no stranger to thinking outside the box, with their mouthwatering burgers, loaded fries and shakes also going down a storm in both Gateshead and Sandyford. The Davey’s brand got a new location last summer when, after its Mexican dishes proved a big hit on the main menu, they got their own dedicated home at both St James’ STACK and STACK in Seaburn. Just like the original Davey’s, the Mexican pops ups have been massively popular, so opening a new site in town was a bit of no brainer for owners Rob West and David Milburn.

And, after Davey’s teased plans for a city centre opening towards the end of last year, with a simple picture of a pair of keys being held up at the top of Grey Street enough to cause a real stir on social media. That was followed up on Friday, by photos of branding going up on the windows of a still unidentified location, which has now been revealed to be the building that was most recently the Flore cafe on Market Street, at the entrance to the stunning Grainger Arcade.

Rob told ChronicleLive that the city centre venue would be a ‘full rebirth’ for Davey’s, with a menu even its most regular customers have never been before, after staff took a trip to New York to see what the hottest food trends were in the Big Apple. After that act finding mission went well, Davey’s are ready to launch round the clock dining for the first time, with a dedicated breakfast menu, including American style pancakes, running til 12noon, before burgers, fries and shakes become the order of the day in the afternoon and evening.

On just much the business has grown over the last five years and the support from people who’ve seen it go from strength to strength, Rob added: “I think that’s the thing about the Newcastle area, people support their own and I’m excited for people to see what we’ve got in store for Newcastle.”
