Dermot O’Leary is branching out from his This Morning gig with a brand new ITV role – and let’s just say he’ll be digging his suitcase out of storage!
The TV presenter is heading to his home country for Dermot’s Taste of Ireland – ITV1’s latest travel series. Dermot, 50, is returning to his roots for a food tour, testing out Ireland’s best kept delicious secrets.
“From traditional Irish stew to soda bread, fresh seafood, and boxty potato pancakes – Dermot will taste his way across the island, meeting the chefs and locals that champion and celebrate Ireland’s gastronomic heritage,” ITV teased. “Having opened two of his own fish-themed restaurants and sharing some of his favourite home recipes on ITV’s This Morning, he is now taking his passion on the road whilst exploring Ireland’s ancient landscapes, diverse cities and stunning coastlines.”

Although Dermot is best known for fronting shows like The X Factor, Soccer Aid, Children in Need and This Morning, he has a passion for food. The presenter has appeared on an episode of Remarkable Places to Eat and previously co-owned two Fishy Fishy restaurants, although the Poole branch closed in 2013 and the Brighton restaurant closed in 2016.
In his new series, Dermot will be visiting the Michelin Star restaurants of Kinsale, oysters by the sea in Cork, comfort food in Wexford and Dublin’s buzzing culinary scene. The show will also head to Northern Ireland to try Belfast’s food offerings and promises to be a “foodie delight, full of surprises”.

Speaking about his new show, Dermot said that he can’t wait to explore his two “great loves – Ireland and food”. He added: “The food scene in Ireland is so exciting and to meet the people and try the produce will be a real treat.
“It’s exciting to see modern Ireland through second generation eyes – and to show that Ireland’s food is more than cabbage and stews… although all their cabbage and stews are also great!'”
Dermot currently hosts This Morning alongside Alison Hammond on Thursdays and Fridays. The show made headlines earlier this month when guest Jimmy Carr kept talking over chef Clodagh McKenna during her cooking segment.
Clodagh was demonstrating how to create three dishes from one roast chicken and for one recipe, she used the chicken carcass, causing Jimmy to chime in: “What? Have you not got a bin?”. Jimmy continued to interrupt throughout the segment, with Dermot later putting a comforting arm around Clodagh as she kept her composure.
Fans took to social media to criticise Jimmy’s behaviour, with one viewer writing: “Urgh. Jimmy Carr next. Switching off as he is obnoxious and proved it by having no respect to Clodah’s segment.”
