Diddy’s legal team has alleged that CNN destroyed the original copy of the 2016 hotel security video that showed the disgraced Bad Boy Records founder brutally assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
As reported by TMZ, Diddy’s defense team filed new legal documents about evidence in his racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for purposes of prostitution case. They wrote that the disturbing footage, which featured Diddy kicking and dragging Cassie in the hallway of the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, was published by CNN after the network purchased it from an unidentified party. Diddy’s lawyers alleged that the original copy of the surveillance footage was “altered” in editing and then “destroyed.”
Diddy’s defense team said that the footage was edited by “covering the time stamp and then changing the video sequence.” They also alleged that it was sped up in editing to “make it falsely appear that the actions in the video are taking place faster than they are.” His lawyers argued that, as a result, the video of the assault does “not fairly and accurately depict the events in question,” and should not be used as evidence of Diddy’s alleged behavior.
In a response shared with TMZ, Cassie’s lawyer Douglas Wigdor has denied the claims that the footage was altered. Wigdor said it’s unsurprising that his legal team “would make a disingenuous argument to exclude the disturbing video from being shown to the jury in the upcoming trial.” Wigdor said that he is “confident” the video “fairly and accurately represents what happened” to his client and “will be admitted into evidence” in Diddy’s case.
The disgraced rapper’s lawyers plan to file legal documents to exclude the video as evidence in the trial. Prosecutors have expressed their intent to use the video against Diddy in his federal case. Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits trial on multiple sex crime charges.
