Mickey Mouse, accompanied by Minnie and some celebrity guests, added some extra sparkle to the first night of the new Disney On Ice show in Newcastle.
The visit to the city of Mickey and friends has become an annual treat and this year’s ice spectacular at Utilita Arena opened on Wednesday evening. And before the night’s skating action, the two stars of the show attended a press call at the arena where invited families had a chance to meet the much-loved Disney characters, with young guests – several in costume themselves – making the most of a photo opportunity too.
Local TV favourites Vicky Pattison – the former I’m A Celebrity winner whose surname is now Pattison-Ramadan following her summer marriage to husband Ercan – and Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies were also there at the meet-and-greet. The evening’s show was then set to see Mickey and Minnie joined on the ice by a host of popular characters including Disney princesses Merida; Belle; Ariel; Mulan and Tiana in a performance delivering a medley of stories.
They include a comedic carnival of Toy Story favourites plus scenes from the likes of Mary Poppins Returns – a first for Newcastle audiences – The Lion King and Aladdin, all told with the help of skilful skating, stunts and elaborate sets and costumes. The debut run of Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures continues until Sunday, with three performances taking place on each day of the weekend: for remaining tickets see here.
