Dunelm issues urgent recall of popular product and urge “stop using it immediately”

As UK residents feel the squeeze of soaring energy costs post-pandemic, many are opting for cost-effective solutions to dry their clothes during winter. Electric heated clothes airers have emerged as a popular choice, with running expenses amounting to mere pennies, a significant saving when stacked against conventional tumble dryers.

Amid this shift, Dunelm has been forced to issue a rare product recall on its widely sought-after Winged Heated Airer due to safety concerns. It’s feared that the item poses a safety risk for customers

Customers who’ve snapped up this item anytime from February 2020 to January 2025, be it online or at a Dunelm store, have been urged by the retailer to “stop using it immediately.”

A defect has been discovered indicating that the airer is prone to overheating and presents a potential fire risk. With thousands of these products sold owing to its remarkable economic benefits—Dunelm advertises that the heated airer costs just a nickel per hour to run—the retailer issued a statement regarding the recall: “We have identified a safety issue with the Heated Airer with Wings.”

“The airer could overheat causing burning which could be a fire risk. The safety of our customers is very important to us and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Bakery chain Greggs were also forced to issue a product recall this week due to a packaging error.

Customers who have bought this airer can take it back to any Dunelm store for a full refund. To check if your airer is one of those affected, you can find its article number next to the product’s on/off switch.

The Dunelm Heated Winged Airer in question has the barcode 5057722844042 and the article number 30752153. For more information, customers are advised to call 0333 2340870.
