EastEnders aired emotional scenes for Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) in the Monday 22 April episode as she excitedly got the results of a pregnancy test.
Sonia and her partner Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) recently embarked on an IVF journey after agreeing that they wanted to have a child together. In Monday’s episode, which has already been released on BBC iPlayer, Sonia discovered, to her complete surprise, that she’s pregnant.
Sonia raced to The Vic to tell Reiss the good news, but said “it’s too early to tell anyone”. Reiss said he wanted to “tell the world” but Sonia reasoned to enjoy the moment for the two of them before revealing their pregnancy to their friends in Walford.
The episode also saw Honey Mitchell and Jay Brown run the marathon on behalf of Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) – which actually saw the actors, Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick run the 26.2 mile long race on Sunday 21 April.
Cameras were set up by landmarks to catch the pair during the marathon which then aired during Monday’s episode.
Prior to the run, Emma said: “It’s pretty exciting, really, because it’s never been done before. It’s a massive thing, isn’t it, the marathon? We’re a London-based show and we’re doing something that’s never been achieved before. So it is very exciting, it’s very nerve-wracking.”
While Jay and Honey were running on behalf of a charity to help people suffering from the same condition as Lola had, the actors both chose to run for charities close to their hearts.
Jamie said: “I’m running for Prostate Cancer UK. My dad, uncle and cousin have all been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the past few years – thankfully it was caught early, and they’re all doing well. So it was a no-brainer for me.”
And Emma explained: “I’m raising money for Children In Need, which was a joint decision between the EastEnders bosses and myself. And I’m really thrilled – they’re just wonderful. I don’t have any kids of my own, so if I can just give to the charity, and support teenagers and children across the country, that’s a real buzz for me.”
There was a twist to the marathon though as Honey’s partner, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) was racing to the finishing line himself where he planned on proposing.
Just when viewers thought Billy had failed, the television came on in The Vic that in fact Honey proposed to Billy – and he said yes!
