EastEnders fans are in for a treat as Joe Swash, who briefly reprised his role as Mickey Miller last year, is set to return to the Square ahead of the soap’s 40th anniversary. Joe will host a special programme, EastEnders Revealed: The Lock In, offering viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the explosive storylines planned for the anniversary week.
This includes the much-anticipated reveal of Cindy Beale’s attacker and the interactive love triangle involving Denise, Jack, and Ravi, where fans can vote on the outcome for the first time ever. Swash will also share insider details about the live episodes, featuring chats with actors like Patsy Palmer (Bianca) and Natalie Cassidy, who recently announced her departure from her role as Sonia after over three decades.

Just like everyday fans, the actors will speculate on their dramatic storylines’ outcomes and celebrate the soap’s 40-year legacy.
“It was a privilege to take another trip back to Walford to reunite with my EastEnders family ahead of the 40th anniversary,” expressed Joe Swash about his recent return. Though he’s not one to spill the beans, he added: “I won’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it for the viewers, but the week is full of explosive drama, and it was great to hear from the cast themselves about what we can expect from the week.”
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw also added: “The 40th anniversary is a monumental occasion for EastEnders, and since we started announcing some of our plans, we have seen an overwhelming amount of speculation around possible theories of what’s to come in the anniversary week. This anniversary special show will give the audience a chance to hear from the actors involved in some of those explosive storylines as they share their thoughts and feelings of being involved in its historic milestone.”, reports the Mirror.

Joe Swash first graced Albert Square in April 2003 before waving goodbye in 2008. However, he always kept a connection to the soap, popping up for guest stints in September 2011, and again recently in December 2024.
The beloved star made a surprise appearance just before the soap’s 40th-anniversary celebration, swooping in to save the Bridge Street Market from shutting down.
Upon reflecting his comeback after nearly 16 years, the star expressed: “It was amazing to go back. I was super honoured to be asked back; it was so nice to see all the new crew and the crew that was there back in the day when I first started. It felt like home.”
Fans can get ready to snuggle up for a binge-watch session as the 45-minute episode premieres on BBC Three, BBC One, and BBC iPlayer.
