EastEnders shooting victim ‘sealed’ as fans predict deadly 40th anniversary twist

EastEnders enthusiasts were treated to another thrilling episode on Wednesday night, as the mystery of ‘who attacked Cindy’ unfolded. As the plot thickened, Anna confessed that she had concealed the shovel used in the assault on her mother.

Hesitant to turn her daughter into the police, Cindy and The Beales decided to consult George at The Vic, who assured them he had relocated the shovel to a secure location – all while a sly Junior eavesdropped on their conversation. When George went to retrieve the shovel to hand it over to the authorities, he discovered it was missing.

By the end of the episode, it was revealed that Junior had taken it back to his flat. In another twist, Cindy paid an unexpected visit to Phil Mitchell, requesting a gun for self-defence, fearing someone was out to kill her. However, Phil declined, stating he “doesn’t like her” and “never has.”

Challenging Phil, Cindy questioned whether he even still possessed the gun. To prove his point, Phil opened the safe and displayed the firearm, reports the Mirror. Unbeknownst to Phil, Cindy had memorised the safe’s code. Could this glimpse of Phil’s gun hint at a shooting in the upcoming 40th anniversary?

Some fans speculate that Cindy might be the one wielding the weapon this time. “Phil’s gun will probably land Cindy in prison when the time comes,” wrote one fan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One fan speculated on Reddit: “I think it will tie into Cindy’s storyline, with her paranoia growing. She’ll steal the gun from the safe and, in a panic one night when she hears someone entering the Beales’, accidentally shoot someone (ie) Peter, thinking it’s her attacker come to finish the job.”

Another concerned viewer hoped for a plot twist: “I hope Cindy gets that gun so Phil doesn’t get a chance to use it,” chimed in another soap enthusiast. Meanwhile, a tense narrative awaits Phil as he’s set to be hospitalised after a harrowing ordeal at The Arches.

EastEnders has taken a bold step by exploring a new mental health storyline centred around Phil who will confront depression and psychosis, and ultimately, grapple with thoughts of suicide. To ensure authenticity and sensitivity, EastEnders has partnered with several mental health charities, such as The Samaritans, Rethink Mental Illness, CALM, and Mind, thus aligning closely with these organisations for the portrayal of this delicate plot.
