Newcastle United headed into Christmas with the best possible present of three points on Saturday thanks to a comfortable victory at Ipswich Town. It meant a perfect response to calls of Eddie Howe and the players being under pressure because of results, ensuring a third successive league and cup victory in a very positive and successful week.
Now the focus turns to the Boxing Day clash with an Aston Villa side who, like Newcastle a year earlier, took the Premier League by surprise to qualify for the Champions League. Also like Newcastle, they’re finding the balance of Europe and the league a tricky path to navigate. However, three wins from their last four games has got their top four bid back on track.
