Emmerdale fans were left doing a double-take when they tuned into some classic episodes of the ITV soap, as they spotted a Coronation Street icon in the village. Actor Daniel Brocklebank looks unrecognisable in the scenes, with the soap star now best known for playing Billy Mayhew in Corrie.
Daniel, 44, took to social media to share his surprise at having spotted himself in the old episodes of Emmerdale, which are broadcast daily on ITV3. The actor posted a photograph of himself posing in front of a television, as a scene from his time in the village played on screen.
“Today Ivan Jones entered #ClassicEmmerdale… I’m now officially running in two amazing shows on @itv
Here’s me at 24 & 44…,” Daniel penned alongside the photo. Soap fans were taken aback by how different Daniel looked during his Emmerdale days, with the star nearly unrecognisable.
“Omg !” one person commented on Daniel’s post. A second said: “You look exactly the same!” alongside a lovestruck emoji.
A third fan said: “Fabulous can’t wait to watch later X”. A fourth added: “Haven’t aged a day! Only grown more handsome!” and a fifth said: “@danielbrocklebank OMGGGG!!!”
Daniel portrayed Ivan Jones in Emmerdale from May 2005 until August 2006, appearing in 107 episodes in total.. He joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2014 as Billy and has remained a regular on the soap ever since.
Daniel has appeared in dozens of other hit TV shows, including Waterloo Road, Midsomer Murders, The Bill, Doctors, Casualty and Holby City. He’s also starred in films such as Native, Soft Lad and Admiral.
He previously spoke about joining the cast or Corrie, admitting his mum encouraged him to accept the role. Daniel said he was living in London when he got the offer, and had wanted time to think it over.
He said: “I was out for lunch with my mum and my grandmother and I spoke with my agent. I said, ‘look, I’ll think about it and call you back.”
But his mum, a massive fan of Coronation Street – forced him to think twice about waiting so long to come to a decision. He said: “I told her it’s a three year contract and I’d probably have to move. She went ‘I don’t care, you’re taking it. You have to take it. I’m not leaving this table until you phone him now’.”
