Emmerdale aired a harrowing twist in Tuesday night’s episode, 4 February, as April Windsor was revealed to be pregnant. After discovering she was pregnant, April, played by Amelia Flanagan, fled the village, overwhelmed by the thought of burdening her family with the news. In a distressing turn of events, she chose to leave home, hoping to stay with friends, but instead found herself sleeping rough and meeting other young people who had experienced the same fate.
In tragic scenes, April suffered a stillbirth alone in a gym’s toilet after sneaking in behind someone. The heart-wrenching scenes left viewers reeling, with one fan commenting: “April’s time on the streets was really heartbreaking to watch. Omg and those reveals were absolutely shocking, makes me wonder when that happened exactly. I think Amelia Flanagan did a fantastic job,” while another shared: “I’ve just watched tonight’s #Emmerdale! WOW! What a powerful episode. Didn’t expect that twist in the middle. Poor April. April’s tragic storyline left fans grappling with the heartbreaking news of her stillbirth, as they attempt to piece together the identity of the baby’s father. Some viewers suggested she could have been groomed by an older man online, whilst others are convinced she might have got a pregnant from someone she met whilst at a party.
However, others suggested that April – who was very friendly with Samson and his friend Josh at one point – could have got pregnant with one of them. Samson and Josh were last seen on screen back in August 2024 when Samson was sentenced to prison for attacking Josh, who had bullied him into lying about what really happened when Matty was stabbed, reports the Mirror.
Mark Charnock, who plays April’s dad Marlon, has opened up about the devastating storyline, saying: “It’s incredible and she’s incredible in it and it fills in all the gaps the audience have had so far. I’m really proud of the show for doing it.”

He added: “I think it’s a wonderful piece of drama that’s going to be really significant going forward. You see the alternate life that she’s been living that will come to be a major problem for Marlon going forward because he can’t comprehend it.”
Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, commented: “April’s flashback episode is a heartbreaking depiction of life on the street as a teenage girl. Continuing to take guidance from the fabulous team at Missing People, it was incredibly important that we didn’t shy away from the agonising journey that April would go through and their help was invaluable in making sure the episode has the authenticity required. Amelia Flanagan’s outstanding performance makes this arguably, one of Emmerdale’s stand out episodes of this year and promises to start a new journey for the character of April, forever changed by her time living on the city streets.”
