It’s the reunion most fans never thought they’s see but Five are back with every single member involved, as J Brown has confirmed he will return after 24 years away.
The ‘bad boys of pop’ first launched at the end of 1997, with their debut single Slam Dunk (Da Funk) making the top 10, before being followed by the likes of When The Lights Go Out, Got The Feelin’ and Until the Time is Through. After If Ya Gettin’ Down narrowly missed out on the top spot in the summer of 1999, Five finally got their first number 1 and biggest hit a few months later with Keep on Movin’.
Other hits from the Five back catalogue include their chart-topping cover of We Will Rock You with Queen, Don’t Wanna Let You Go and their final number 1, Let’s Dance. The group called time of their four career shortly after and J hasn’t performed with them since. Abz, Ritchie, Sean and Scott got back together for The Big Reunion in 2013, to give behind the scenes insights from their time as one of the biggest bands in pop, before joining the likes of Atomic Kitten, Blue and 911 for a huge concert in London.
For the last decade, Five have been Three, with Ritchie, Sean and Scott flying the flag at festivals, Prides and events like Bongo’s Bingo home and overseas but now, after teasing an announcement was coming this Thursday, February 27, both Abz and J have confirmed their involvement. Quoting his own tweet from 2014 informing people he was ‘no longer part’ of Five, Abz announced he was back on Monday and then, as fans kept everything crossed for a full reunion, J did the same shortly before 5.30pm on Tuesday.
Each member added a different line from Slam Dunk Da Funk in the comments thread, as the post was then shared on X and Instagram to a huge response.
And now fans, who remember the epic live shows Five used to put on back in the day, are hoping a full tour is on the cards. Quick to react on Insta, one fan replied: “Omg I’m there. Take my money” as a second wrote: “AAAAARGHHHHHH!!!!!! Nineties and noughties kids ASSEMBLE!!!!”
