Gavin and Stacey‘s Mathew Horne, who plays the beloved Gavin, was rushed off stage after a head injury during a West End performance. The actor, currently starring in The Tempest at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, suffered the mishap just ten minutes into Tuesday [17 December] night’s show. He hit his forehead on a rock while rolling on the floor as part of the play.
Despite being taken off stage for 15 minutes, the dedicated star returned to continue his role. Audience members noticed a red mark on his face, with one telling The Sun: “Mathew’s forehead had a big, red mark on it and it looked pretty painful, even from far away in the theatre. He was clearly in pain so they stopped the show as a precautionary measure to give him a once-over.”
After a brief pause, the cast, including Mathew, came back on stage. “It was about 15 minutes before the cast eventually returned to the stage, including Mathew, but his forehead looked sore,” reports the Mirror.
The audience admired his determination, dubbing him a “real trooper” for carrying on with the show.
Fans of Gavin and Stacey are excitedly anticipating the return of their favourite characters this Christmas Day and they’re in for a teary farewell as Ruth Jones and James Corden, the creators of the beloved series, have confirmed it’s curtains for the show. Get your tissues ready because in the special episode, viewers will finally learn what became of Nessa (Jones) after her jaw-dropping proposal to Smithy (Corden) which left us all hanging five years ago.
Speaking of the much-anticipated script, Mathew Horne gushed: “I want to say I was nervous about reading the script, as it’s always been Ruth’s (Jones) and James’s (Corden) priority to get the script perfect in the first instance, to tell a story the right way. And I had no evidence to suggest that this final script wouldn’t adhere to those principles and be anything other than brilliant. I did have a nervous compulsion to read it immediately and my expectations were exceeded. It made me laugh, it made me cry and upon completion, I thought it was nothing short of a masterpiece. Not just in terms of an episode of Gavin And Stacey, but frankly any script I’ve ever read.”
Throwing us back with a slice of nostalgia, last month saw the release of a new snap featuring the lead stars Ruth, James, Matthew (Gavin) and Joanna Page (Stacey). Reenacting their iconic debut image, the fan-favourite four looked every bit the part, though Smithy now sports a more mature look, complete with beard.
New plot twists have been hinted at, with many fans eagerly waiting to discover the truth about that notorious fishing trip involving Uncle Bryn and Jason a secret that has been kept under wraps until now.
The much-awaited episode is set to broadcast on Christmas Day starting at 9pm and will run for 1 hr 35 minutes.
