Giovanni Pernice has announced he’s “back” after a “difficult year”, breaking his silence following his victory in the Italian version of Strictly last night. The professional dancer, 34, and his partner Bianca Guaccero, 43, emerged victorious in Saturday night’s finale of Ballando Con Le Stelle, following his controversial departure from Strictly after nearly ten years.
Giovanni and Bianca, who confirmed their relationship last month, shared a celebratory kiss after their win. On Instagram, Giovanni referred to his challenging year after the BBC initiated an investigation into allegations that he bullied his 2023 partner Amanda Abbington, accusations he strongly denied.
He was exonerated of almost all misconduct claims made in September. Sharing a video of their celebration, he expressed gratitude to fans for their support and described the win as a “dream”, while also seeming to suggest a return to Strictly might be in the pipeline.
He posted: “We did it ! ! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS ! ! after a difficult year I’m back.”
“Thank you to each and every one of you that took the time to support me and Bianca over the last few months – it hasn’t gone un noticed. We have done some incredible dances, and obviously im very proud of what we achieved together!”
“To everyone in the UK and Ireland – thank you so much. The constant support I have felt from you all over the last few months has been unbelievable! I see you all, and I’m so grateful to each and every one of you for being there last night and voting when needed – I know it was a lot,” reports the Mirror.
“It felt amazing to be in the final again doing what I love – and then to win as well was a dream and definitely something I will never forget! Thank you for being there and being part of that with me I can’t wait to see you all again very soon! Gio x.”
Fans expressed their joy for Giovanni, with one fan gushing: “Well done Gio! ! You were so missed on Strictly UK, great to see you getting the recognition you deserve!” Another shared: “Congratulations. Amazing to see you back with that smile beaming! This is your comeback and your moment. so proud of you! Both of you. Well deserved CHAMPIONS! !”
On the heels of an extensive BBC investigation, Giovanni Pernice has been cleared of almost all abusive claims set forth by actress Amanda Abbington last September. Following a six-month probe into her allegations, executives determined Pernice had not engaged in physical abuse.
Out of a total of 16 allegations against Pernice, six were upheld, some based on his use of swear words. The inquiry concluded his choice of words at times could come across as ‘belittling’ towards his dance partner. Despite the turmoil, Giovanni triumphantly took to the stage during a special commemorative show celebrating 20 glorious years of Strictly.
