Paul Hollywood has ditched the Great British Bake Off tent for the great outdoors in his latest role. The celebrity chef was spotted filming in London, looking worlds away from his role on the Channel 4 show.
Paul, 58, who is a judge on Bake Off with Prue Leith, transformed into a Marvel-inspired superhero on a set in the capital, as he filmed a commercial for Compare The Market. He was seen wearing a full red and blue costume, complete with plastic body armour and a cape. He was seen being hoisted into the air as he took part in some daring stunts for the company’s new adverts.
At one point he dangled from a rope in front of a building, while in another snap Paul performed a number of different movements, lifting his legs and arms in the air. Another scene saw the Bake Off favourite run through a cloud of smoke.
Paul appeared to be enjoying himself on set, as he was snapped smiling and joking with crew members. He joins a whole host of celebs who have starred in adverts for Compare The Market, alongside the company’s iconic meerkats.
Film actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nicole Kidman and Macaulay Culkin are among those who have previously starred in the ads. Paul will be appearing with Compare The Market’s meerkat mascot Aleksandr in the new advert.
He reportedly landed a six-figure deal to be the face of Compare The Market. Paul will appear in the company’s campaign, which will use his surname as a joke to promote their 2-4-1 cinema tickets offer.
A TV insider told The Sun: “This is particularly surprising given that the Bake off judge very rarely lends his name to anything or takes part in campaigns. But the meerkat ads are well-liked and he thought the way they were going to use him was funny and clever.
“And Paul is an international star worthy of an international campaign because Bake Off has made him a famous face around the world.”
Paul rose to fame after joining the Great British Bake Off as a judge in 2010. He’s also appeared on several other TV shows, including Paul Hollywood Eats Mexico, Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip and Paul Hollywood Eats Japan. He was made an MBE last year for services to baking and broadcasting.
