Holiday guide to the cheapest April flights from Newcastle Airport this Easter half term

If you’re hoping for a family getaway over the Easter half term break this year, there’s still time to book your holiday – and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune just because the schools are off.

There are dozens of destinations you can fly to directly from Newcastle Airport, whether you’re in the mood for a relax on the beach or want to soak in all the sights of a new city. From favourite tourist hotspots in Spain or Portugal to the lesser-travelled destinations in the likes of Poland and Germany, there are plenty of getaways with cheap flights starting from under £20 – even during the Easter holidays.

We have scoured flight comparison website Skyscanner for all the cheapest places you can fly to for inspiration on your next holiday booking. Here are all the overseas destinations available from Newcastle Airport with flights starting from under £100 during the fortnight that most schools are off this April.

Spain is the most popular choice for a holiday among us Brits, and from its sunny skies and golden beaches to its cities packed full of history and culture, it’s not hard to see why. It’s also the cheapest option if you’re looking to jet off from Newcastle Airport over the Easter holidays, with several destinations available whether you want a beach escape or city break.

The Balearic Islands are the must budget-friendly choice, with flights from Newcastle to Ibiza over the two-week Easter half term start from as little as £21 each way, with flights available from Jet2, TUI and Ryanair. Meanwhile, if you want to go from Newcastle to Palma in Majorca, you can do so every day of the week from just £34 each way with all of these airlines plus easyJet.

The Canary Islands are another top choice among holidaymakers in search of sunshine – and with temperatures averaging between 19°C and 24°C in April, it’s a great time to book a beach getaway. You can go to the four biggest islands – Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote – directly from Newcastle.

Fuerteventura is the cheapest option, with flights starting at £48 during the Easter holidays, followed by Lanzarote, where you can fly daily from Newcastle starting at £58 over the half term break. Both Jet2 and Ryanair fly to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote multiple times a week, while TUI also operates flights from Newcastle to Lanzarote.

Alternatively, if you’re after more of a city break, you can go from Newcastle to Barcelona from £45 each way during the Easter period. Ryanair runs these flights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there’s plenty of choice whether you want a short trip or longer getaway.

Poland

Poland is one of the cheapest places you can visit from Newcastle for a city break and the opportunity to immerse yourself in history and culture. Flights to the capital Krakow are available from £39 each way during the Easter holidays, run by Jet2 on Mondays and Fridays and Ryanair on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Other direct flight options include Newcastle to Wroclaw, a city known for its unique architecture and restaurant scene that makes it a popular choice among tourists, with flights running on Tuesdays and Saturdays via Ryanair and starting from £39. And the third and final Polish destination for Newcastle travellers is the historic city of Gdansk, which is also the cheapest of the trio with flights from just £23 during the Easter break through Ryanair and Jet2.



Milan

Italy

There are two memorable city breaks on offer for those looking to explore Italy straight from Newcastle. The first is Milan, sitting right at the heart of Italy’s fashion, design, and architecture scenes and often dubbed the fashion capital of the world, and flights start from just £18 each way with Ryanair during the Easter holidays.

The second is the Italian capital of Rome, which is a pricier choice with flights from Newcastle starting from £180 during the April school break with Jet2. It may be worth the extra expense to some holidaymakers, however, to check off all the iconic sights in the city from the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain to the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.

France

Holidaymakers can go directly from Newcastle to Paris from £51 each way this Easter, with Air France and easyJet both offering daily flights to the city of love. From world-renowned museums and landmarks to its famous shopping streets and fancy cuisine, there’s something to enjoy for all ages in Paris.



Amsterdam

Netherlands

The main attraction in the Netherlands flocked to by tourists around the world is of course its capital city, popular with stag and hen dos, history buffs and culture-hungry travellers alike. The route from Newcastle to Amsterdam is run seven days a week via KLM and easyJet and starts from £46 each way during the April school break, making it a budget-friendly option as well as being one of the closest destinations with the journey taking little more than an hour.

Of course, you can also take the ferry over from ‘Newcastle’ – or technically, North Shields – over to Amsterdam with DFDS Ferries. Deals website Wowcher is also currently running a special offer on this trip meaning you can save up to 53% on a Newcastle to Amsterdam mini cruise for two people.

Portugal

You can head from Newcastle to Faro from £46 each way in the Easter break, with Jet2 running flights seven days a week alongside Ryanair on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The country’s southernmost city and the capital of the Algarve region, this getaway promises some spectacular sights from its charming old town to its golden coastline.

Another option for holidaymakers looking to head to Portugal is Madeira, with Jet2 offering flights from Newcastle every Monday, but these are considerably pricier and start from £152 in April.

Germany

Destinations from Newcastle to Germany include Dusseldorf from £63 each way, with Eurowings operating flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Another top choice for a city break, the top attractions in Dusseldorf as voted for by visitors on Tripadvisor range from Königsallee, a boulevard lined with high-end shops with a tree-lined canal down the middle, to Rheinuferpromenade, a riverside promenade offering scenic walks and views of the historic skyline.

You can also go to Frankfurt directly from Newcastle Airport, but this is on the pricier side with flights starting from £111 each way over the Easter break via Lufthansa airlines.
