A Hollywood star who has starred in big dramas on both sides of the Atlantic and after initially rising to TV fame in Byker Grove, has been back in his old stomping ground this week and was photographed enjoying a meal at a highly rated restaurant on the outskirts of Newcastle.
It was back in the early 90s that Charlie Hunnam rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ant and Dec and Donna Air, as a Grover, with him appearing in three episodes of the hit BBC teatime show as Jason, before going onto appears in one of the most talked about dramas on TV, Queer as Folk and then heading to the US to take on the lead role in smash hit America drama Sons of Anarchy.Roles.
Charlie was also handed the main part of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey films, only to pull out and be replaced by The Fall’s Jamie Dornan and his credits also include violent football film Green Street, Nicholas Nickleby, The Gentlemen, Pacific Rim and Guy Ritchie’s 2017 King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
The now 44-year-old spends most of his time in LA, where he lives with other half Morgana McNelis, but was back in the Toon over the festive period and headed for a bit to eat at Dabbawal, one of Tyneside’s most popular curry spots. The actor happily posed for a photo, with Dabbawal, who have restaurants in both Newcastle city centre and Jesmond, then sharing the picture on their social media accounts, with the caption: ‘Last night, we had the honour of welcoming local legend and star of Sons Of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam to Dabbawal Jesmond! A true Gentleman with excellent taste!”
The post quickly got plenty of reaction, amassing nearly 500 likes and prompting plenty of comments, including some from people who couldn’t get over how different he looked and another who wrote: “if only we’d been in jesmond a day later!”
