Martin Roberts, presenter of Homes Under The Hammer, has opened up about the heartbreak he feels when his work forces him to spend time away from his family. Martin, who is married to Kirsty Roberts and shares two children with her, confessed it’s “heartbreaking at times” being away from his loved ones while working on a major project.
The family resides in a quaint village close to Bath. However, Martin’s latest venture is situated in Blaencwm, at the peak of the Rhondda Valley, an hour from Cardiff in Wales where he now owns the Hendrewen Inn and Hotel. The establishment holds the distinction of being the only pub in the local community.
At 60, there are times when Martin admits that his refurbishment journey keeps him apart from his family. Despite such moments, the presenter praises his family for being incredibly supportive of his new undertaking.
In an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk, Martin offers insight into balancing family and work life: “The family are really supportive, but the kids are at school so we have to keep the family boat sailing.”
Familiar to parents everywhere and always juggling demands, Martin explained how organising family dinners, after school activities, and getting his kids to school on time takes precedence over personal commitments. Yet, like countless others, there are instances when these priorities clash.
He gratefully acknowledged the pivotal role his wife plays in maintaining equilibrium at home: “Luckily, my wife does it. She keeps on top of all of that so it does enable me to go off and carry on with my madcap project, which actually isn’t madcap. I’m doing it for all the right reasons. And I’m enjoying it.”
Martin continued: “As tiring and heartbreaking at times as it is, you know, it’s something I’m really, really enjoying and proud of, which is why we are filming it.”
Excitingly, fans won’t have to hold their breath for too long to see the finished product, as Martin has announced a YouTube series showcasing the entire revamp from start to end.
His wife Kirsty shared her thoughts in the trailer, confessing: “Just head is spinning right now in terms of how we turn this around.”
Also, not just sticking to television presenting, Martin has decided to involve youngsters from the local town, allowing them to develop useful vocational skills by helping out during the renovation.
Besides being exceptional TV hosts, Martin and his lovely other half have quite an impressive collection of properties and aren’t exactly novices when it comes to property makeovers. Despite having to abide by a rather strict budget due to the expansive revamp under works, he remains optimistic about hoping to breathe life back into the local community.
