BBC Homes Under the Hammer‘s resident property expert Martin Roberts was left utterly disgusted by an unpleasant find as he stepped through the front door of a property on the latest edition of the much loved property show.
The 60 year old presenter, who originally hails from Warrington, fronted Thursday’s episode of the programme alongside former pro footballer Dion Dublin, with the dynamic duo heading to the midlands to review the first property on offer.
While reviewing the first property initially, the housing expert was initially impressed with the exterior of the building in Staffordshire, but things suddenly took a turn for the worst when he stepped inside and was confronted with a devastating whiff of something far less pleasant than expected.
With a crinkle to his nose, Martin said: “The first thing you notice is this overwhelming smell of animal. Even just glancing around, there are lots of signs of this place being shared by humans and canines. Downstairs loo has lots of scratch marks.”
Unfortunately, the smell wasn’t the only horror in the home, as Martin continued the tour and made another disgusting discovery in the kitchen that by his own admission: “just feels wrong.”
Pointing out the offending discovery to viewers at home, a horrified Martin said: “Look at this. Actual dog hairs in the grease above the cooker. That is wild. Well that wasn’t very pleasant.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Despite the unfortunate discovery, Martin did have some positive news as he revealed that despite the cosmetic damage, the home wouldn’t have been too difficult to renovate for the right buyer. Luckily, recently retired couple Katie and AJ were just the eager duo to take on the tricky challenge and jumped at the chance to purchase the home for £99,500 – a whole £9500 above the original asking price.
Following some hard graft by the couple, the grim house was soon cleaned up and transformed into a stunning three bedroomed property, that even impressed discerning critic Martin! And as it turns out, it wasn’t just his approval the couple had earned as the newly renovated property had also seen it’s value skyrocket to a whopping £175,000 – £185,000 after the refurbishment!
Taking into account their renovation costs Martin revealed the couple could expect to earn in excess of £60,000 profit should they sell the property on. Alternatively should they wish to enter the rental market instead, Katie and AJ could stand to earn between £775 and £800 a month.
