It’s had its fair share of critics, but, Hooters IS set to open in Newcastle, as ‘coming soon’ signs have now gone up at a famous location in the city.
It was more than a decade ago that speculation started that the globally known bar chain were eyeing up an opening on Tyneside, with them submitting an application to open up what, at the time, would have been only Hooters’ second venue in the UK. Sadly for owners, their plans were rejected, with an appeal being made to no avail, with major concerns raised over crime and disorder, public nuisance and public safety.
ChronicleLive reported at the end of last year that, nine years on from having their plans thrown out, Hooters made a fresh application to expand to Newcastle, this time in the vacant lower ground floor of the large TJ Hughes store in iconic Newcastle city centre location, the Bigg Market
And now, although an actual launch date has yet to be confirmed, it looks very much like its full steam ahead for Hooters Newcastle, as signs have gone up outside the premises, surrounded by popular haunts like Filthy’s, The Points and Popworld, which say ‘opening soon’ as well as encouraging applications for jobs for a number of different roles. The outside of the building is also now adorned by Hooters famous orange logo and the words ‘Restaurant and Bar.’
While Hooters, which was founded in 1983, is said to have in the region of 500 bars across the world, there are still only two in the UK, one being in Liverpool and the other in Nottingham.
Hooters claims to offer ‘craveable food, cold beer, and all the sports you could possibly watch on wall-to-wall big screen TVs’ with food and drinks being served by its famous ‘Hooters girls.’ A mission statement on its website adds: ‘Throughout the years, we’ve been delighted to rescue millions from the ordinary with our one-of-a-kind hospitality and consistently good food. And though we didn’t expect the crazy growth we’ve had, we’ll keep not trying to not mess it up.’
