Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is the best player in the Premier League on form right now, according to former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp – who has also backed Anthony Gordon to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 24.
Swedish striker Isak took his tally to 23 goals for the season – 19 in the Premier League – with a brace in Newcastle’s 5-1 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday. He is now just two goals behind the Premier League leading scorer Erling Haaland with four games left to play.
Redknapp has been hugely impressed with Isak this season and his attacking partner Gordon, who he is sees as a must-pick for the England squad for this summers European Championships in Germany.

“Another week, another Alexander Isak star man, what a player this guy is!” Redknapp told sports betting site BetVictor while naming his team of the week. “I’m not sure if there’s a better player in the country right now, he just looks like he’ll score a couple in every game, particularly at home. Newcastle have been very good going forward all season, Eddie Howe will be frustrated with the amount of injuries at the back, that’s what’s really cost this side this season.
“Anthony Gordon is another lad who seems to always be in this team, but how can I leave him out? He was fantastic in that second half against Sheffield United. He won a penalty, created a couple of the goals and was just causing so many problems for Sheffield. Right now, he’s probably one of Gareth Southgate’s form players and I just can’t see how he won’t be on that plane to Germany.”
Harry Redknapp’s team of the week: Pickford, Castagne, Senesi, Akanji, Young, Saka, Gallacher, Wharton, Gordon, Haaland, Isak.
