As Unforgotten returns for a new series, the stars of the hit ITV crime drama spilled some secrets on The One Show. Sinead Keenan, who made her debut in the last series as DCI Jessica James, revealed a surprising family connection within the show.
Sinead’s character replaced Nicola Walker’s popular DCI Cassie Stuart, who was killed off in series four. As the last series unfolded, viewers discovered tensions in Jessie’s home life when it was revealed that her husband Steve James (played by Andrew Lancel) had an affair that hit too close to home.
During her appearance on The One Show, Sinead shared that the actress playing the other woman, Jessie’s sister Debbie, is actually her real-life sister, Grianne Keenan.

Host Roman Kemp, who was presenting alongside Clara Amfo, asked Sinead about this unique situation saying: “This is such a mind boggle moment but in the last series your character Jess finds out that her husband is having an affair with her sister but your sister in the show is played by your actual sister in real life. Safe to say, not real-life husband? That would be horrendous! But how fun is it to play this out with her?”

Sinead responded: “Oh it’s great, it’s great – thankfully that has never happened in real life so it was lovely. We’ve been in the same shows through our careers but our characters never met, crossed paths, so yeah that was real good fun,” reports Wales Online.
Meanwhile, Sanjeev Bhaskar, who has won over audiences playing detective Sunny since Unforgotten’s 2015 debut, spilled the beans on The One Show about the character’s iconic backpack.
With the much-anticipated sixth series returning to screens on February 9, fan curiosity has peaked regarding Sunny’s ever-present black bag.
Delving into the mystery, Sanjeev revealed: “From the second series onwards, I asked the costume department to fill it with stuff, but don’t tell me what’s in it.”
