Even more headliners have been announced for the main stage of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The yearly event takes place in a different city each time, this time being centred around Liverpool.
Sunday’s lineup has been turning some heads, with Lola Young headlining following her standout Brits performance, the iconic folk/rock fusion of Mumford & Sons, and Wet Leg.
One name that will turn heads across the region is JADE (previously styled as Jade Thirlwall). The South Shields songster had made her start in the world-famous girl group Little Mix, but her new solo projects have quickly seen her become one of the biggest female pop stars in the UK.
She performed her hit song Angel of My Dreams at the BRIT Awards, and picked up the award for best pop act. She said the song was an honest assessment of her “toxic relationship with the music industry” and aims to show how “fame has come at a price”.
She will be on the New Music stage at Big Weekend, shared with the likes of Good Neighbours, Self Esteem, and Nia Archives. JADE is also set to take Glastonbury by storm come summer, alongside fellow Northerner Sam Fender.
Sam Fender is slated for Saturday at the Merseyside event, after picking up Best British Alternative/Rock Act once again at the BRIT Awards earlier in the month. Platforming his newest album, People Watching, the North Shields native has been on a meteoric rise over the last few years, his appearance at the Big Weekend solidifying that.
Joining him is Myles Smith, who won the Brit Rising Star award that Fender himself received in 2019. Previous recipients include Adele, Florence and the Machine, Sam Smith and The Last Dinner Party.
Ticket availability for the event is due to be tricky, with the majority of tickets reserved for those who live in the vicinity of Liverpool, and only 10% of tickets reserved for those in the rest of the UK. Tickets go on sale at 5pm on Thursday, March 13th.
