Jhené Aiko says her home has “burned to the ground” amid the devastating fires in Southern California.
In an update shared to Instagram Stories, the “Calm & Patient” artist broke the news, adding that she was “praying for everyone” in the wake of the destruction.
“Me and my children’s home is gone, burned to the ground with all of our things inside,” Aiko said. The singer has two children, including a son, two-year-old Noah Hasani, with Big Sean.
“Lord have mercy,” Aiko added. “Thankful we still have each other, starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy.”
In a follow-up post, Aiko continued, “Praying for everyone this morning. Those who lost their home, those who lost their life’s work, those who lost their life. Praying for my city. Praying for the wild life and lost pets. Praying for the wold. Let suffering be a gift, a lesson in compassion.”
Aiko also addressed people who appeared to lack sympathy for her, writing on Instagram that she doesn’t have “Paris Hilton money.”
Of course, Aiko is not the only one to have been displaced by the ongoing situation in California. Wednesday night, Kid Cudi let fans know he had been forced to evacuate amid the fires, which at the time also included a blaze in the Hollywood Hills area. Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, and Billy Crystal were among those who had spoken out about their homes being burned.
Nearly 180,000 people were under evacuation orders in the region as of this writing. There are currently five confirmed deaths, though officials have been clear that an official count won’t be possible until deeper into the recovery process. Biden, notably, is said to be receiving regular updates on the status of that process.
Several high-profile awards season events have been postponed as a result of the fires. The Oscars nominations special, for one, had been slated for Jan. 17 but has now been pushed back to Jan. 19.
