A range of interesting jobs are on offer at Beamish Museum, with roles in the mining village and confectioner’s shop available. The open air museum in County Durham has announced a range of seasonal job opportunities and is looking to recruit people for the year ahead.
A number of roles are on offer across the museum’s time periods, from the 1820s to the 1950s, with roles including food and beverage team members and engagers in the museum’s towns and rural life exhibits. The museum is also searching for enthusiastic team-members to work in the Drovers Tavern which serves 1800s-inspired meals in an authentic setting.
Beamish is also holding a recruitment fair on Tuesday, February 4 from 2pm to 7pm, where people can find out more about the vacancies. Debbie Harrington, People and Culture Manager at Beamish Museum, said: “Working for a charity like Beamish Museum really is a job like no other, and these roles are so important in making a real difference for our visitor experience. We’re looking for enthusiastic people to help us deliver exceptional customer service and to help keep Beamish the successful world-renowned museum it has become.”
You could work in the Edwardian-era part of the museum and join the team as an engager in the bustling 1900s town. Staff could find themselves working in the Jubilee Confectioners shop where the classic old fashioned sweets such as pear drops and cinder toffee are sold. Roles in the cleaning team are also available.

Jobs are also on offer in the mining life team, where employees will play a key role in explaining the region’s industrial heritage. In the museum’s 1950s town employees could play an important role in bringing history to life for visitors, from welcoming them to the Grand Cinema to assisting with lively events like tea dances and the annual pantomime.
The rural life team has roles on offer where visitors are shown what life was like on the Home Front during the Second World War at The 1940s farm. Beamish is also looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the entrance team.
Closing date for the seasonal vacancies is February 16. For more information, or to apply for any of the vacancies, visit here.
