John Fury will be notably absent from Tyson’s corner when he faces Oleksandr Usyk this weekend. Both fighters participated in a media workout in Riyadh on Wednesday night, gearing up for the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO Undisputed World Heavyweight Title fights.
However, the Gypsy King’s father was nowhere to be found. Fury Sr has faced criticism from across the boxing world, including his own brother, for the advice he gave to Fury during his defeat by Usyk in May. John Fury is a well known member of the boxing family, but there are other rarely seen members of the family with intriguing pasts, including a mysterious mum to kingpin uncle.
The pair delivered one of the more memorable heavyweight bouts in recent history over 12 closely fought rounds. After the final punch was thrown, the judges awarded the split decision to Usyk, crowning the Ukrainian as the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis triumphed over Evander Holyfield in 1999.
Fury Sr has remained silent on the fight since and has not been seen in Saudi Arabia this week. However, head trainer SugarHill Steward disclosed that John will not be attending the eagerly awaited match in the Kingdom Arena on December 21, set to be viewed by millions worldwide.
He stated: “Tyson Fury is just ready right now, along with myself. He has always had a silly demeanour, and playing around but this is a different side of him. He is 100 per cent ready.”, reports the Daily Record. When asked who will be in his corner, he added: “Just myself, Andy Lee and the cut man, pretty much that’s it.”
According to AI predictions, the match has a clear winner. Tyson Fury is anticipated to knock out Oleksandr Usyk in the fourth round of their rematch on December 21.
