Lidl is making a big move with its loyalty app – shoppers are set for even bigger savings in-store.
The budget supermarket giant has boosted the personalisation aspect of its Lidl Plus app, delivering more narrowly tailored discounts right to the user’s phone. Now, discounts specific to the customers’ local store – which can be found under the “your store” section on the app – will complement the existing “all stores” offers.
This update utilises data from the app each time it’s scanned at checkout to offer unique discounts.
Speaking to The Grocer Magazine, Lidl revealed that this new feature, introduced this week, aims to provide “greater visibility” for store-specific deals. Particularly, this will be beneficial for Lidl’s “limited-time” items typically appearing in their famed middle aisle, since these products might not be available across all Lidl locations simultaneously, reports the Mirror.

Launched in 2020, the Lidl Plus app enhances the shopping experience by rewarding patrons each time they scan it during a purchase. Customers also receive new one-off personalised coupons weekly, ensuring everyone gets a chance at snagging up to 25% off on certain items.
Additionally, Lidl throws in the odd free item for good measure. Recognising the customers’ appetite for deals, last year, Lidl expanded the app to include non-personalised offers, refreshing the selection each week.
This month, Lidl has further expanded its reach by launching four new supermarkets in Canning Town, Preston, Walsall, and Wombourne, while simultaneously enhancing five of its stores in Blantyre, Cwmbran, Oldbrook, Wells, and West Ealing with larger sales floors and contemporary facilities. These additions aim to offer customers additional shopping space and a broader range of choices.
Following an aggressive expansion in December with the inauguration of ten outlets at locations including Bovey Tracey, Hemel Hempstead, and Ipswich, the supermarket continues its growth strategy. At that time, Lidl GB’s Chief Development Officer Richard Taylor remarked: “As we begin the new year, we’re maintaining our momentum and opening nine state-of-the-art stores, delivering bigger and better shopping experiences to new communities and those we’ve proudly served for an average of 26 years.
“After a record-breaking Christmas, where millions of households turned to Lidl, these openings reflect the growing demand for our unbeatable value and quality. This is just the start – we’ve got more openings in the pipeline this year alone and can’t wait to welcome even more customers, both loyal and new, through our doors in the weeks ahead.”
