Livid Kieran Trippier blasts Newcastle United defence as wild Brighton break dressing room ceiling

Kieran Trippier blasted his fellow defenders after switching off for Brighton & Hove Albion’s crucial equaliser in the FA Cup exit to the Seagulls at St James’ Park.

The former England full-back sat on the floor and gestured “where were you?” to the United rearguard were undone from a routine Tariq Lamptey throw-in. After Newcastle had lost possession cheaply Brighton built up down the right-hand side with Joao Pedro playing a one-two with Yankuba Minteh before he ran on to slide it past Martin Dubravka.

Trippier had made an honest attempt to get across to the left-back position from the right-hand side and almost stopped Minteh. But he was livid with Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Tino Livramento with the Swiss defender outpaced and the Blyth lad and Livramento out of position.

Another defensive inquest could be vital for United now ahead of the trip to West Ham with a whopping 13 goals conceded in just five games since getting past Arsenal to reach the Carabao Cup final with a clean sheet.

Anthony Gordon red card sparked a 10-man brawl

The Scouse star’s dismissal with seven minutes left was branded as stupidity by a host of fans in the aftermath of the FA Cup exit. Not only did it reduce Newcastle’s chances of getting into the last eight given the forward’s goalscoring threat, but the likelihood is he will also be banned for the Carabao Cup final.

His only defence will be that Jan Paul van Hecke had a hold of his shirt before his attempts to push him away. In the Press conference Howe, wary of a potential appeal, did not condemn his actions and insisted he had not tried to harm the Albion defender.

Howe said: “Knowing the player, I know there’s no malice intended there. Of course, we’ll reserve the right to put in an appeal. If we analyse the incident and feel there’s grounds for that, then we will do it without hesitation.”

Brighton raise the roof

It’s usually the Newcastle United dressing room celebration pics that get the attention on social media these days.

But it was the visitors who decided to milk it on X after the 2-1 win with tunnel jubilation recorded and some wild celebrations in the away dressing room going viral after the game. The Albion team’s partying was so wild they managed to knock out the roof panels in the St James’ Park changing areas. Although, Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen tried to fix them before they left for the team bus.
