Northumberland’s newest garden centre has opened its doors as visitors flocked to its grand reopening following a huge revamp under new ownership.
The Heighley Gate Garden Centre near Morpeth was officially reopened today, Saturday March 8, after the former Dobbies site was acquired by British Garden Centres. The national operator vowed to improve the store, closing the 18-acre site off the A697 last month as renovation work was carried out.
Charles Stubbs, founder and director of British Garden Centres, said at the time: “We are delighted to have acquired the centre from Dobbies and we have exciting plans to improve the store and enhance the customer experience, ensuring Heighley Gate Garden Centre continues to be a key part of the local community.”
On Saturday, Gardeners’ World star Adam Frost made a special appearance to cut the ribbon at the Heighley Gate grand reopening celebration, with huge queues forming as green-fingered visitors lined up to get a first look at the new centre. After officially opening the site, garden designer Adam took the time to speak to fans and take selfies.
Heighley Gate becomes the third site owned by British Garden Centres in the North East, alongside East Durham Garden Centre near Easington and the former Dobbies Gosforth site. It comes after Dobbies revealed a huge restructuring of its business in the wake of financial challenges.
The opening celebrations will continue on Sunday, March 9, with visitors able to get 10% off everything when they sign up for a Family Card. Take a look inside the revamped Heighley Gate Garden Centre in our photo gallery below.
